Allied Wellness Center

Who We Are

We are a small grassroots, neighborhood-based health and wellness promotion agency based in Allied. We believe in the power of neighbors supporting one another to achieve our individual and community health goals.

What We Do

Founded in 2004, the Allied Wellness Center (AWC) has primarily operated as a drop-in service, staffed with a part-time community health liaison. In addition to drop-in services, the AWC has regularly sponsored or collaborated on programs to promote health and well-being, foster a sense of community and encourage local leadership in the neighborhood, mainly through our Allied Welcomer and Community Health Worker (CHW) projects. Our health education and support activities have focused on chronic health issues that plague the neighborhood, such as asthma, obesity, diabetes, heart disease and hypertension; and our health promotion efforts have included nutrition education, the Walkie Talkies walk-and-talk wellness group, and support groups through the Grandparents Raising their Children’s Children (GROCC) project. Particularly with the pandemic, we have shifted our focus to addressing social determinants of health and COVID education and building COVID vaccine confidence among neighborhood residents.
