Specialty Care Free Clinic
Specialty Care Free Clinic provides free specialty medical care to uninsured patients. The clinic is staffed by volunteer medical providers across 24 specialties, such as Cardiology, Neurology, Ophthalmology, Endocrinology, Podiatry, Orthopedics, Dermatology, Urology, Physical Therapy, and 15 others. These providers are supported by volunteer nurses and volunteer Spanish interpreters.
Founded in 2001 by local physicians, Ernie Pellegrino, Paul Simenstad, and Walter Sundstrom, Specialty Care Free Clinic became the first free clinic in Wisconsin to address the critical need for specialty care among uninsured, low-income patients. Today it continues to be the sole provider of free specialty care in Wisconsin, referred to by over 30 primary care organizations. SCFC partners with local community care organizations to provide free diagnostics, treatments, and surgeries for those patients requiring additional care. The patients seen at the SCFC are uninsured.
