Physicians for Social Responsibility Wisconsin

PSR Wisconsin recognizes that the three gravest threats today to human survival are nuclear weapons, climate change and environmental degradation. We seek to prevent nuclear war, to reverse our climate change trajectory with carbon-free and nuclear-free energy, and to stop further contamination of our environment. PSR WI seeks to bring together physicians, health professionals and concerned citizens to chart avenues for action on the most pertinent health threats our world faces today. PSR Wisconsin is a state chapter of the national group, Physicians for Social Responsibility. PSR National was founded in 1961. In 1962, PSR National's founding members, Drs. Victor Sidel, Jack Geiger, and Bernard Lown, published a series of influential articles in the New England Journal of Medicine, offering pioneering scientific data on the medical consequences of low-yield nuclear weapons. The articles activated health professionals across the United States for nuclear disarmament, spurring the formation of PSR chapters across the country PSR Madison was the first chapter in Wisconsin, incorporating in 1981. There were other PSR chapters in La Crosse, Eau Claire, and Milwaukee. In 1995, state chapters combined to form the statewide PSR Wisconsin. PSR Wisconsin is a 501(c)3 organization and registered as a charitable organization with the State of Wisconsin. We rely on the generosity of our members and donors to fund our work.

Guided by the values and expertise of medicine and public health, Physicians, Health Professionals, and Concerned Citizens for Social Responsibility (PSR) Wisconsin works to protect all life from the devastation of nuclear weapons, climate change and environmental contamination by promoting education and awareness of these issues to the community, and by advocating for social change.
