Our Vision

We envision the Lussier Community Education Center drawing in generations of community members from all walks of life to take care of one another and create a more just, healthy, and vibrant community.

Our Values

Sustainability – We will use our resources to enhance the long-term health of our community.

Opportunity – We will create opportunities for people to grow, learn and contribute within the LCEC and in their lives more generally.

Justice – we will work to promote fairness, to ease suffering and to address the causes of suffering.

Responsibility – We will act with thought and care about our effect on others and the community.

Generosity – We will give freely when we can and be understanding of others.

Gratitude – We will express our appreciation for all of the gifts that people bring to the center.

Responsiveness – We will adapt our programs to what the community needs and has to offer.

Engagement – We will help people take action to benefit our community.

Openness – We will actively work to welcome and include all people in the life of the center.

Collaboration – We will work together with others to more effectively improve life in our community.

Mutual Respect – We will treat all people as important and expect the same from all who use the center.

What We Do

The Lussier Community Education Center has been operating for over 40 years and exists as a result of residents organizing in their neighborhood. Wexford Ridge Association for Tenants and Housing operated an all-volunteer neighborhood center from the early 1980's until the center became a part of the United Neighborhood Centers (UNC) in 1994. We became independent in 1999.

The Lussier Community Education Center has a history of strong programming, including: Elementary, Middle School and High School Youth programs--free, drop-in programs for area youth, a free legal clinic, job clinic, a bi-weekly food pantry and a Friday "Food from Friends" program complete with fresh produce and breads.
