Do you like to bake? Every week, Madison Birthday Boost looks for volunteers able to bake (or buy) cupcakes for our birthday boxes!

Cupcakes are due on Wednesdays or Thursdays and must be dropped off at the specified location.

Pack the cupcakes in any disposable container and include candles. Please be aware of any allergy information that is included in the sign-up.

Madison Birthday Boost has been bringing birthday joy to kids across Madison and surrounding communities for a year, and we're ready to grow our board as we look ahead to what's next.

We give Madison-area families facing financial hardship complete birthday boxes, presents, cupcakes, decorations, and everything needed to celebrate their child, right here in our own community. Our mission is simple but powerful: helping every local kid feel seen, celebrated, and valued on their birthday, no matter their family's circumstances.

We're looking for thoughtful, community-minded people who care about kids, equity, and making Madison a stronger, more supportive place for families. You don't need to fit one specific role. We'd love to connect with people who bring good ideas, steady support, useful experience, or a heart for service.

What's involved:

Serve a 2-year board term Attend bimonthly board meetings, virtually or in person if you choose Serve on at least one committee, such as fundraising, outreach, or operations Each quarter, contribute by preparing a birthday box, hosting a volunteer event, or making a $250 donation Help guide our programs, partnerships, fundraising, and long-term plans

Madison Birthday Boost is looking for a Social Media Volunteer to help us share the stories behind the celebrations.

We partner with local social workers to provide fully assembled birthday boxes for children experiencing financial hardship. Each box includes decorations, gifts, and everything needed for a joyful celebration. Your role would be to help bring that impact to life online.

This is a creative, flexible volunteer role where you will shape how our community sees and connects with our mission.

What You Will Do

Manage our Facebook and Instagram accounts

Create and schedule engaging content 2 to 5 times per week

Share volunteer highlights, impact stories, and behind-the-scenes moments

Use our existing theming and color palette. There is opportunity to help us build our brand identity.

Encourage community involvement and volunteer sign-ups

Help grow our audience and strengthen community engagement

Track basic engagement metrics and share insights with leadership

You will collaborate with our leadership team for direction, stories, and content ideas. We provide photos, updates, and brand guidance. You bring creativity and consistency.

Time Commitment

Approximately 3 to 5 hours per week. This role is flexible and can be done remotely.

Madison Birthday Boost partners with local social workers to provide fully assembled birthday celebrations for children whose families are experiencing financial or other hardship. Each child receives a themed birthday box with decorations, gifts, and everything needed to feel celebrated.

Every week, children in Madison would otherwise go without a birthday celebration. We make sure that does not happen.

We are looking for an additional East Madison site leader to host a neighborhood birthday drop-off site.

You will not be coordinating with agencies or managing the overall system. We handle that centrally. You will not be doing this alone. We provide the materials, structure, and ongoing support.

What You Will Do

Host a small porch-based or in-home drop-off and pick-up location

Help organize and assemble 3-6 birthday boxes per week (opportunity for more if desired but not required)

Make completed boxes available for scheduled agency pick-up

Welcome local volunteers who sign up to help

If someone enjoys leadership and wants to take on more, there is room to grow into volunteer coordination, but that is completely optional.

Time Commitment

About 5 to 10 hours per week, usually spread across one or two evenings.

Ideal Location

We are especially hoping to expand into:

East Madison near the Isthmus or SASY neighborhood

We'd like to add a site near these areas to better serve social workers and volunteers across the city.
