Volunteer: Volunteer Cashier - Habitat ReStore

Do you like working with people and helping the cause of affordable housing? If so, join Habitat of Dane County as a volunteer cashier!

Habitat ReStores are nonprofit home improvement stores and donation centers that sell new and gently used furniture, building materials and appliances at a fraction of the retail price.

Volunteer cashiers are needed to:

Greet and interact with customersOperate a registerUtilize the store paging systemMaintain a safe, clean work environment

Shifts are available Wednesday mornings (9am-1pm), Thursday mornings, Friday mornings, and Saturday mornings or afternoons (1-5pm).

We are asking for a commitment of 1 shift/week - or every other week - for at least 3 months. Training will be provided in the form of shadowing another cashier and/or staff member, at least once, up to as many times as wanted before feeling comfortable to cashier independently.

Requirements:

Ability to stand for the majority of a 4-hour shift (with periodic breaks and a chair available at the register)Good customer service skillsWillingness to learn

Habitat ReStore Donation Hotline helpers coordinate material donation pickups and drop-offs at the ReStores in Dane County. We are looking for help on Wednesdays!

Join Habitat for Humanity of Dane County for a "Summer Appeal Mail Party" on Wednesday, May 27!

Help hand-address and stuff fundraising letters into envelopes at our main office. This work is critical to reaching donors, who are crucial to helping Habitat provide affordable housing.

Training and lunch will be provided. Please wear comfortable, appropriate clothes as this opportunity will be in an office setting. Volunteers may be sitting for prolonged periods of time, folding papers, and sealing/stamping envelopes.

Assist in unloading donations from the donation truck Clean, measure and prep donated materials as needed Process small hardware items Organize the sales floor

Position Requirements:

Ability to stand & walk for 4-hour shift (with periodic breaks, snacks provided!)

Shifts are available 9am-1pm and 1pm-5pm, Tuesdays-Saturdays. Our greatest need for help is Friday afternoons, along with Saturday mornings and afternoons!

Volunteers receive 10% off ReStore purchases!
