We seek to provide international students, visiting scholars, immigrants, refugees and their families with a sense of welcome and belonging and help them adjust to life in the U.S. Our programs and activities address the common issues faced by international citizens including language and cultural misunderstandings, anxiety, homesickness and loneliness.

Madison International Partners is seeking volunteer teachers who can help adult learners whose first language is not English learn basic conversational English.

Madison International Partners is seeking volunteer teachers who can help with general English and conversational English for adult learners whose English is not the first language.

In recent months the demand for English as a Second Language (ESL) programs in the Madison area has grown significantly, causing many ESL providers in the community to keep a long waiting list.  Given that ESL classes are critical to the livelihoods and futures of the immigrant and refugee populations, Madison International Partners is launching a pilot ESL program beginning in January 2024. The goal of the program is to fill an immediate need observed in the community. The program will start with a class of 10 to 15 basic level students. The class will be held in the morning for 1 hour twice a week (days to be determined according to the availability of the volunteer teachers) at Christ Presbyterian Church (944 East Gorham Street) for 8 weeks. Volunteer Teachers will have the option of teaching 1 or 2 classes a week.

Madison International Partners will provide free teacher training, class materials, and ongoing support for volunteers with no ESL experience.

Responsibilities:

Responsible for planning and leading all lessons, with support from the ESL Program Coordinator and using books and materials provided Provide counseling and referrals for students as needed Conduct ongoing assessment and evaluation of student progress and provide support for students who require additional assistance. Maintain a safe learning environment for students.

 Requirements:

Ability to work effectively with diverse student body Ability to interact effectively with diverse populations and empathize with people unfamiliar with local culture Demonstrated ability to work independently in a multi-cultural environment Excellent organizational and time-management skills Good verbal and written communication skills Can commit to at least one hour of lessons a week for at least 8 weeks

Madison International Partners is looking for individuals or families who are willing to befriend and help international students practicing their English skills and learn about American culture. It is also a great opportunity to learn from other cultures. Our experience working with internationals proved that this is a unique platform for cross-cultural exchanges.

English Conversation Time is a flexible program where International students have a meaningful interaction with native speakers. The program helps International students practice their English, and gives them the opportunity to learn more about American culture while sharing their own customs and culture with Americans. You can make a huge difference in the life of someone through this opportunity.

 

Tuesdays from noon to 1pm; Wednesdays from 10 to 11 am; And Fridays, from 6 to 7:30 pm.

 

RESTRICTIONS: The only requirements for this volunteer opportunity are: your English fluency; your heart to serve and be welcoming to others; you ability to interact with people from other background and cultures; and your willingness to share American culture.

Volunteer Citizenship Class Teachers Needed. (Unpaid)

Madison International Partners offers free U.S. citizenship several classes to learners who want to prepare to take the citizenship test. The class are held online via zoom. The program is free of charge 

Position Description: The primary purpose of this position is to teach adults of diverse ages, ethnicities, and educational backgrounds, U.S. history and Civics to prepare them for their U.S. citizenship interview with USCIS (U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services). We offer two separated classes. The first  classes meets Tuesdays, 5 - 6:30 pm; and the second class meet on Saturdays, 9 - 10:30 am pm for a 12-week period. Candidates have the choice to teach the class that fit better with their schedules. No special skills are needed. The Teacher book and teaching materials are straightforward

 Responsibilities:

¨ Provide citizenship-preparation instruction to legal permanent residents seeking to naturalize

¨ Write lesson plans

¨ Provide counseling and referrals for students as needed

¨ Conduct ongoing assessment and evaluation of student progress and provide support for students who require additional assistance to attain proficiency

¨ Maintain a safe learning environment for students

Required Qualifications:

¨ Ability to work effectively with diverse student body

¨ Excellent organizational and time-management skills

¨ Good verbal and written communication skills

¨ Proficiency with Zoom

 

Training will be provided if needed.
