Volunteer: Escalera or Juventud TutorsCentro Hispano seeks qualified volunteer mentors to work with middle and high school youth at various school sites in the Madison Metropolitan School District (including Toki, Sennett, Sherman, and Wright Middle Schools & West and East High Schools). Mentors are paired with a student participant of one of Centro Hispano’s youth programs and continue to mentor the student for a minimum of 1 year. Volunteer mentors are required to commit to 25 hours of service per semester, an average of 2 hours each week. Volunteer mentors are also required to attend at least one training during the school year. Work study is available for eligible UW-Madison students. Responsibilities: Mentor a middle or high school student Provide academic support as needed Follow the student from class to class or attend after school homework sessions as volunteer schedule allows Lead 1 after school workshop (50 minutes) of your choosing with all youth participants in Centro Hispano’s youth program at your specific school site Volunteer mentors report to school site Youth Program CoordinatorsQualifications: Spanish bilingual - preferred Experience working with youth Strong leadership ability Excellent problem solving skills Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment An interest in youth, education, Latino culture, and nonprofit workTime Commitment: Commit to 25 hours a semester. Services provided through this program include interpretation, education, health, housing, information/referral, legal, immigration, and notary public. This position will aid in the follow up of clients, data entry, as well as other needs as they arise. Responsibilities: Enter data from intake documents into database Set up for workshops and clinics Call clients and provide follow up service survey Assist at reception, as neededQualifications: Level of Spanish fluency varies based on needs Must be fluent to assist with follow up calls Basic level of Spanish for data entry Flexible and adaptable to varying needs Can work and focus through distractions at the front desk Strong interpersonal and communication skillsTime Commitment: Commit to a minimum of 3 hours per week for at least one semester (or summer term).
