Volunteer: English for Language Learners Tutor

Volunteer tutors work with adults who are learning the English language skills necessary for living and working in our community. Tutors work one-on-one with individuals who either desire to acquire English language skills to improve communication skills or to start a career at Madison College

Tutors will use published curriculum materials or create appropriate materials to meet the student’s listening, speaking, reading, and writing needs.

Qualifications

Strong desire to improve the English language skills of students Sensitivity to cultural differences Patience, understanding, flexibility, and an unceasingly positive attitude Ability to serve as a tutor/conversation partner for 1-3 hours a week Fluency in English Responsibilities Prepare ESL lesson plans and materials as requested by the student At the close of each session, complete a feedback form Notify the student directly if you are unable to be present during your scheduled hours Communicate any personal needs or concerns to the ESL Coordinator in a timely and appropriate fashion Provide regular feedback to the ESL Coordinator on progress with your student Record hours tutored each session and have the ESL student sign off on hours

Volunteer: Spanish GED 1-1 tutor for MATH or RLA (Spanish grammar and composition)

The Latino Academy is seeking volunteers to provide one-in one assistance for Spanish GED class. This is an ideal opportunity for Spanish speaking students who are also science, history or liberal arts majors!

Use your expertise and your Spanish. You can make a big difference by giving GED students the one-on-one attention they deserve.

The content that will be reviewed is high school level ex) algebra and number operations or sentence structure and grammar.

***This location is a 30 min bus ride on route 47 from UW to Leopold Elm.

Spanish GED one-on-one tutor for MATH or RLA (Spanish grammar and composition)

Time: We are flexible to volunteer's availability but would prefer either evenings 5:30-8:30pm and/or Saturdays morning/afternoon

Location: 1917 Lake Point Dr, Madison, WI 53713

Day: Monday thru Saturday (any day)

We ask for a minimum commitment of once a week:
