Schumacher Farm Park

Schumacher Farm was donated to Dane County Parks in 1979 as a nature conservancy and living-history museum. The Friends of Schumacher Farm was established as a 501(c)(3) organization in 1986, and a trust fund was left by the donor to support activities of the Friends. Schumacher Farm Park is a nature conservancy and open-air museum representing Wisconsin farm life in the 1920s-30s. All activities represent this time period, including heirloom gardening, restoration of farm machinery, workshops, out-building acquisitions, prairie restoration, special public events, oral histories, and collection and restoration of period artifacts. All activities are performed by volunteers under the guidance of our Board of Directors and supervision of the Park & Program Manager. The park is located five miles north of Madison on the eastern edge of Waunakee.
We bring Dane County's rural heritage alive through events, workshops, group tours and more. A big part of that mission involves completing the Center for Rural History, our new education and visitor center. If you enjoy historical preservation, old-time farm activities, gardening and educating kids, then we are the organization for you.
