Heartland Hospice is seeking compassionate Vigil Volunteers to provide a comforting presence for patients during their final hours of life.
The role of a Vigil Volunteer is simple yet incredibly meaningful: to be there. When patients are nearing the end of life and may not have family or loved ones present, Vigil Volunteers offer companionship, comfort, and peace at the bedside.
Volunteers are the HEART of Heartland Hospice.
A gentle presence, a reassuring smile, a quiet moment of companionship. These small acts can provide tremendous comfort to both patients and families during one of life's most important transitions.
As a Vigil Volunteer, you may:
- Sit quietly with a patient during their final hours
- Offer a calm and comforting presence
- Read, play soothing music, or hold a patient's hand when appropriate
- Support family members who are present
- Help ensure that no patient dies alone
- Work alongside the hospice care team to provide compassionate companionship

Volunteer Requirements
- Must be 18 years or older
- Compassionate and dependable
- Strong listening and interpersonal skills
- Reliable transportation
- Ability to remain calm and supportive in sensitive situations
- Desire to serve as part of a caring hospice team
Heartland Hospice provides all required onboarding, including:
- Application packet
- Background check
- Orientation and training
- Non-THC drug screening
- TB testing
