In celebration of national bagel day (01/15), we invite you to celebrate our non-national and completely made-up "bagels and buildings" day (01/16)! Enjoy a shmear and join us in bagel merriment on this one-of-a-kind build day.
Schedule:
8:15 am - Check in with site supervisor and safety talk - you must be on site by 8:15am and check in with a supervisor to participate in the bagel build day
10:00 am - Morning break - Eat bagels!
12:00 pm - Lunch break - Eat more bagels!
3:00 pm - Clean up
3:30 pm - End of day
What to wear:
- Clothes you don’t mind getting dirty
- Layers - work may be outside, inside, or both
- Closed toe shoes (work boots are ideal, but not required)
- Bagel bib (not required)
What to bring:
- A craving for bagels
- Filled water bottle
- Habitat will provide all tools and safety equipment, but you are welcome to bring your own tool belt and/or hand tools if you like
Please note all participants will be required to wear a Habitat hardhat and safety glasses, at minimum, on site.
**If you bring your own safety glasses, please note they must be marked with Z87 to comply with the requirements of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
Physical Requirements:
- Be able to stand for a prolonged duration of time and be able to walk, bend, and/or squat
- Be able to walk on uneven terrain
- Be able to work outside in various weather conditions
- Be able to lift up to 30 lbs.
Parking:
- You will not be able to park on Janesville St. We recommend parking on the NE side of S Perry Parkway or on Sterling Dr. and walking over to the build site. Look for Habitat signs and a site supervisor wearing a fluorescent yellow-green hard hat. The supervisor may be in the unit in-progress (last unit at the very end of Kay Ct), so please enter if you do not see them outside. Please do not park and walk through the Woodland Village Apartments directly behind the jobsite.
Other:
- You will be working on a private, active construction site. Please note only outdoor portable restrooms, which may not be ADA compliant, will be available.
- Please do not volunteer if you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms or if you have been in contact with someone who is experiencing those symptoms.
