Description

Our afterschool program offers a history club for middle school youth. In the past, the club has been structured like a book club where each member reads from a reading-level adapted binder about key historical milestones in US history. Participants are encouraged to participate in discussion and have frequent comprehension checks. Our goal is to boost their literacy skills and foster a love for history that connects with the present-day context.

To make this club more engaging and fun, we want to transform our readings into scripts that the kids can read as "characters" in these historical lessons. We hope to introduce props as well! If you're a history buff who loves immersing yourself in the past but also enjoy writing for a young audience, then this opportunity is for you.

You will be working at your own pace with guidance from our tutor who wrote the original history binders. Choose to adapt 1 or 20 history lessons into scripts - it's up to you!

Volunteer in person or at home. Computer provided if in person.
