Volunteer with Literacy Network as a tutor! Literacy Network is a non-profit on the south side of Madison that provides free classes and tutoring for immigrants, refugees, and adult students.
Tutors are paired with a student, and they work together 1:1 weekly at a set time and place. Depending on the program, tutors help students learn English (ESL), study for their GED/HSED, learn basic skills in math and computers, or prepare for their US Citizenship interview.
We provide:
- Training for new tutors
- Regular support from staff
- Lesson planning resources and materials
- Ongoing opportunities for training and growth
Our volunteers:
- Are 18+ years old
- Are reliable, professional, patient, and kind
- Speak, read, and write English fluently
- Check email regularly
- Tutor 1:1 at a set time for two hours each week
- Commit to tutoring through the full semester, with no more than two absence
We have ESL Tutors, GED/HSED Tutors, Essential Literacy Tutors, and Citizenship Tutors. Volunteers can share their preference for program, time, location, and mode (virtual or in-person) on their application. Learn more and apply on our website: https://www.litnetwork.org/volunteer/
