RSVP is currently looking for Volunteer Bus Buddy-Ride Coordinators for the 2025 Bus Buddy Tours Season.
Have fun coaching and training others to navigate the new Madison Metro Bus System using maps, schedules and the internet.
The Bus Buddies program offers Dane County seniors who wish to utilize public transportation to community and senior centers, shopping, appointments, and places of interest, the opportunity for help and companionship from experienced volunteers that are familiar with public transportation.
Bus Buddy Tours offers seniors age 60 and over an opportunity to go on a group trip by city bus to a designated location while learning how to navigate the Madison Metro Bus System. This program is designed to help ease the way for those who are not used to using the bus system while creating a fun social outing for those involved.
Volunteers who offer to be Ride Coordinators must be able to meet the following requirement
- Be registered as an RSVP volunteer
- Be familiar with public transportation options in their community
- Have experience with using public transportation in their community
- Be willing to coach and train others to navigate the public transportation system using maps, schedules, and internet
- Be willing to accompany new riders on their first 2 or 3 outings until they feel comfortable traveling independently
- Be prepared to spend up to 4 hours escorting new riders on their excursions
- Responsible for completion of rider and coordinator registration, report, and evaluation forms.
