Glenway Prairie and Wild Flower Area is a prairie garden at the intersection of Glenway Street and the Southwest Path also referred to as the Southwest Bike/Pedestrian Path. Join a small crew of volunteers on July 13th, 9 am to 11 am who will do important tasks to maintain the Glenway Prairie. Weeding will be the primary task. Sandy Stark, the Crew Chief, will provide guidance. No prior gardening experience is required while being physically able to garden is needed.
Here's your opportunity to help maintain an important restored green space, meet other Madisionians, get some exercise, and enjoy nature. This prairie and others along the Southwest Path, are homes for animals, birds and insects while retaining stormwater on its way to Lake Wingra. The prairies are especially important to the diminishing numbers of Monarch Butterflies. Butterfly habitat is on the decline due to increased industrial farming and use of pesticides along the migratory routes, contributing to an alarming drop in Monarch Butterflies. In short, you volunteering will have a far reaching impact behind just maintaining the Glenway Prairie.
Dress for gardening and bring water with you. Tools will be provided.
