Description

For more than four decades, the Urban League has hosted one of the largest family observances of the King Holiday in Wisconsin. The Outstanding Young Person Breakfast, held on Sunday during the King Holiday weekend, attracts more than 900 youth, families, volunteers and community leaders. Middle and high school students are presented with the Outstanding Young Person Award. Students are nominated by schools from all across Dane County based on their academic performance, community service, and extra-curricular participation.

The breakfast is open to the public and is one of the oldest and most well attended family observations of the King Holiday in Dane County. Children, families, elected officials, business leaders, school staff, and community members continue to make this a must attend event!

You will be assigned one or more of the following during your shift:

  • Greeters/Seaters: Responsible for greeting guests and pointing them to the registration table that is required- i.e., for those who haven't purchased tickets, they will proceed to the ticket table, corporate sponsors will go to the corporate sponsors table, those who have already purchased tickets can go to the purchased table ticket line. Volunteers will also seat guests as they come into the gym and encourage guests to fill in the gaps at tables.
  • Registration Table: Responsible for checking in volunteers at 7am, corporate sponsors, MANN scholars, and informing guests that we are sold out and that overflow observation seating is available in the balcony.
  • Coffee Servers: Responsible for serving and re-filling coffee for guests.
  • Food Servers: Responsible for setting up and maintaining the food service lines/serving breakfast to guests. Volunteers will also run food pans back and forth to and from the kitchen when low.
  • Beverage Monitor: Responsible for keeping watch over the drink station. Guests are allowed only one free beverage (excluding coffee). Water is counted as a free beverage.

Volunteers under the age of 16 will need to have a guardian present.
