Join Little Free Library in celebrating access to all books during Banned Books Week, September 22-28, 2024. Banned Books Week is one of our favorite weeks of the year because it allows us to show our support for books that have been banned or challenged. Volunteers can take action to create awareness for this issue and make banned books more easily accessible in the US. Adult volunteers can sign up here. Teen volunteers ages 13-17 can sign up here.
What you can do:
- Share a banned book — or a book you hope is never banned — in a Little Free Library near you.
- Download the LFL mobile app. Select the Banned Books indicator to find book-sharing boxes near you that champion this issue.
- Show your support for Banned Books Week with the social media graphics from our toolkit.
- Donate to Little Free Library to help make all books — including banned books — accessible to everyone!
- Take action to help defend books from censorship and to stand up for library staff, educators, writers, publishers, booksellers, and readers!
Time Required: This is a flexible time commitment. You can take 5 minutes or a few hours to join us in the fight against book ban.
Resources Available: We have social media graphics, sample captions, and an action guide available. We’ll also share information about how to use the Little Free Library app.
Qualifications: A passion for the freedom to read and equitable book access.
Requirements: Parent/guardian permission is required for all volunteers
under 18. If
you wish to share a book, you will need to provide your own book to donate to a
Little Free Library.
